Peer auditing

ISO 50001 allows an organisation to 'self-declare' conformity, and if the exercise is approached diligently it will expose one's efforts to scrutiny and thus bring many of the benefits without the cost of external certification by an accredited assessor. Even more so if the EnMS is subject to internal audit. Unfortunately, to do the job properly, the auditor needs not only to be knowledgeable about energy management, but also not involved in developing the EnMS. This presents a problem for most organisations, which would be lucky to have one energy specialist on the strength - let alone a spare one to audit the other one's work.

Our idea is simple: pair up with another sufficiently similar organisation, and audit each other's work.

As a member of Club 50001 you can ask us to broker an introduction for you. You'll just need to show that you have started building an EnMS based on the principles in ISO 50001, and tell us what sort of partner organisation you are looking for. We do not charge for the service but of course we'd be delighted to provide advice and support on a paid basis if you need it.
